White house down and olympus has fallen12/8/2022 landmarks and actual real-world violence. Of course, there’s always been a tenuous balance between fictional violence against politicians and U.S. Watching it, one can’t help but think of Gabby Giffords and the gun legislation struggling to get through Congress these days. As if that’s not enough, Olympus also features innumerable scenes where politicians, including the Vice President, are shot – often at point blank range – in the head. In some ways, the release of movies that would’ve been unimaginable a decade ago marks a healing milestone on the collective American psyche post 9/11 – especially Olympus, in which terrorists actually fly a plane into the White House. X-Men 2, which came out in 2003, has a scene where a mutant gets into the White House, but the scenes are all internal and no one of importance dies. In the intervening years after the attacks, Washington was destroyed on the silver screen, but by natural causes: an ice age in The Day After Tomorrow (which tactfully avoided showing the actual destruction of any landmarks) and tectonic shifting in the movie 2012. ![]() 11, 2001 terrorist attacks to violently attack Washington landmarks. But the three movies are notable in that they are the first blockbusters since the Sept. A paramilitary group is the root of all evil in White House Down. In Olympus the terrorists are, implausibly, North Korean. Both Olympus Has Fallen and White House Down focus on terrorists taking over the White House and a lone Secret Service agent or cop – Gerard Butler in Olympus and Channing Tatum in White House Down – is left to save the president. The third, White House Down, is expected in June. Joe: Retaliation, are already out in theaters. Two of the movies, Olympus Has Fallen and G.I. ![]() Sure, Congressional approval ratings are at an all time low and President Obama isn’t faring a whole lot better, but three new movies out this spring gleefully bomb, shoot up, take over, hit with an airplane and otherwise trash the White House. There's absolutely no sex or romance, but there's some language, including a single "f-k you," plus "s-t," "bitch," and "a-hole." Ultimately it's a crowd-pleasing action movie with a well-intentioned but slightly contradictory message involving both peace and the importance of armed defense.Follow soon to a theater near you: the total destruction of Washington. A young girl is frequently in danger and is almost killed on a couple of occasions (which ups the movie's intensity level), and the president seems dead. ![]() There are a few hand-to-hand combat scenes and a tense hostage situation in which people (some in high levels of the administration) are executed or wounded. Like Independence Day, which was also directed by Roland Emmerich, there's a lot of violence, but most of it is on a grand scale - explosions, helicopters/planes crashing, and deaths the audience doesn't see too up close. Parents need to know that White House Down is a patriotic thriller in the vein of Olympus Has Fallen and Independence Day, in which the country is saved by one brave man with a gun - in this case Channing Tatum.
